Travel Cardiovascular Tech Qualifications

We already touched on some personality qualifications that a travel ICU nurse needs — such as a sense of adventure, a passion for serving critical care patients and an ability to work under pressure. Because of this, we require one to two years of experience in the ICU before becoming a travel nurse. These developmental years in the field can give you the skills to feel comfortable and confident while traveling from facility to facility.

Fastaff also asks that you have an active license or accreditation that is valid in the state where you will be traveling. This makes the transition much easier. However, as long as your license is active in one of the 50 U.S. states, we can help you out with what additional requirements or certifications you will need where you're going.

ICU Nurse Job Description

ICU nurses come in contact with patients undergoing life-threatening conditions, including sepsis, respiratory failure, traumatic brain injury, stroke, drug overdose, heart failure and more. Because of this, ICU RNs will often have fewer patients than in other units due to the critical attention needed. While specific tasks can change each day, an ICU RN will generally:

  • Evaluate the patient's condition regularly

  • Administer medications, complex assessments and high-intensity therapies

  • Manage respiratory and ventilator technology for applicable patients

  • Update patient records with extensive documentation
