Number of years working with Fastaff:
One year and two assignments.
Why do you love working with Fastaff?
I love working with Fastaff because they are very professional and they can be trusted.
I am convinced they have my best interests at heart. I had an experience with another agency that said one thing over the phone but when I received the contract, it was totally different. When I called them to go over the discrepancy, they had a myriad of excuses and tried to explain that there was a misunderstanding. I immediately decided they could not be trusted and after I refused the offer and assignment, they tried to renegotiate.
What do you love about nursing?
These are many reasons why I love nursing. Before a patient comes under my care, they are worried, confused, scared, lacking information, in pain, miserable, frustrated, ashamed, craving attention, or all of the above. It’s a pleasure to know that after they come under my care, I help to destroy or eliminate as many of those feelings or emotions as I possibly can.
What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?
It pays well. I get to live and work in a new city or state and experience what that community is famous for.
Tell me about a time where you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.
During my first assignment with Fastaff, I had experiences on several different occasions where the supervisors, staff, coworkers and patients showed me that nursing is really my true calling. During this assignment, they made me feel a sense of accomplishment.
What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterwards?
One of the most challenging cases I had to endure was when a patient who I was caring for decided to stop all medical means and asked me to be his nurse until he passed. This was a very emotional moment for me. My husband always told me that I would make a great nurse because of the empathy I show toward complete strangers. This became so apparent with this case of a dying patient who felt I understood and shared the experience of what he was going through. This experience made me thank God and my husband for guiding me in the path of nursing where I can be a blessing to others. The impact that this has had on me is priceless.
Describe the most miraculous or impressive thing you’ve witnessed or been a part of during your time as a nurse with Fastaff.
One of the most impressive things I continue to experience is the fact that patients and family members continue to confide in me their feelings and concerns. At the end of this experience, these patients and family members seem to have a significant breakthrough. Their mood changes and they begin to relax and smile as if they’ve lost a heavy burden. Sometimes people just need an ear to listen to or a shoulder to cry on.
How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff?
Traveling with Fastaff is helping me put myself and my two children through college. We will graduate without any burdensome student loans. Travel nursing will also help my husband and I start a scholarship fund to help disadvantaged students in Jamaica.
