October’s Nurse of the Month is Making an Impact

October 25, 2017

Fastaff nurses are rewarded and recognized for the experience, skills, and dedication they bring to each travel nursing assignment. This nurse is someone who exemplifies the Fastaff values.

Read below to learn more about October’s Nurse of the Month, Amber Jones**:**

Number of years working with Fastaff:

Eight lovely months with Fastaff.

Why do you love working with Fastaff?

I love working with Fastaff because of the staff. Thus far, the staff has been awesome to me. Anytime I call, they are very prompt and informative. Of course, the pay rates are one of, if not the best. I would recommend Fastaff to anyone.

What do you love about nursing?

The one thing I love most about nursing is the rewarding feeling you get at the end of each and every day when you sit down in that quiet place and reflect, knowing you helped someone or helped saved a life.

What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?

Travel nursing has been rewarding for me because I get the pleasure of meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. The biggest perk is being able to work and vacation at the same time.

Tell me about a time where you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.

On August 14, 2017, I was voted one of my current assignment's champions by one of the residents. The award read: “Thank you for working so hard to take great care of our patients and for helping our residents when they need you! In a time of need, Amber rose above her duties to protect all of us!"

What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterwards?

My most challenging assignment with Fastaff would have to be my current assignment, but honestly I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything. I think being here has made me stronger mentally, emotionally, and physically. Most importantly, being here has made me stronger spiritually. Sometimes you are the nurse with a full patient load, covering another nurse for breaks, the attending (CNA), the 1:1 (sitter), housekeeping, and thinking for the residents all in one shift and the same time.

Describe the most miraculous or impressive thing you’ve witnessed or been a part of during your time as a nurse with Fastaff.

One the most miraculous things I have witnessed on my unit is how the staff can still be so nurturing and loving toward a patient that does the following daily: scratch, bite, scream, spit on staff, break staff skin, smear feces everywhere, and even eat his own feces. We are normally short staffed daily. It’s just impressive to me that the staff comes together, knowing what they are in for, no matter whose patient he is for the day and get the task done. Normally you would hear, “Oh he is not my patient.” No matter how much he puts us to the test, we still show him unconditional love!

How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff?

While traveling with Fastaff, I have been able to live my dream of becoming a travel nurse, travel to New York for the first time, check some monetary things off my list, and take care of my family/friends.
