New Need for Nurses in COVID-19 Temperature Checking Positions

July 21, 2020

As we figure out what the ‘new normal’ looks like during COVID-19, nurses and medical professionals are in a unique position.  Their bravery, rapid response, and medical training have made them indispensable in our society. As some courageously fight on the front lines of coronavirus, medical needs are now needed in positions that were previously nonexistent. One in particular is temperature checking for the public, like professional sporting events.

How COVID-19 temperature checking at events works

Our nurses and medical professionals are stationed at different entry points of the facility. As people drive up to these entry points, they are stopped by our nurses. Without leaving their car, our nurses take their temperature using non-contact infrared digital thermometers. This includes everyone who will be on grounds, such as players, coaches, employees, maintenance crew, and camera crew. If they read a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, the visitor will be asked to move to a second location, where a temperature check will be taken, ruling out a false positive. Here, our medical staff will also look for additional coronavirus symptoms, like coughing or respiratory issues.  If their temperature is still above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit after a second temperature check, the person will not be allowed to enter the facility and recommended to go home to self-quarantine and get tested for COVID-19.

Fastaff nurses working at temperature checking

Fastaff Travel Nursing had the opportunity to work with professional sporting events to provide temperature screenings at entry points. Lauren Pasquale Bartlett, Fastaff VP of Marketing discussed this process and the potential evolution of the travel nurse needs during COVID-19 on various radio shows across the country.
