July 30, 2020

Fastaff nurses are rewarded and recognized for the experience, skills, and dedication they bring to each travel nursing assignment. This nurse exemplifies the Fastaff values. Read below to learn more about the July Nurse of the Month, Adelaide Brannan.

Name: Adelaide Brannan

Specialty: Emergency Department

Number of assignments: Two assignments

Number of years with Fastaff: Less than one year

Why do you love working with Fastaff?

I love the many opportunities Fastaff gives. I have a supportive team behind me while travelling around the country making a competitive wage. I have a great recruiter who answers all my questions, no matter how stupid I think they may be. I was at my assignment within four days of learning I was accepted to the position and the entire team made that transition seamless.

What do you love about nursing?

I love the connections I get to have with my patients. No matter what, no one likes to be sick and am privileged enough to have an opportunity to comfort them, empathize with them, and heal them.

What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?

I get to meet so many wonderful people, learn more about nursing, and see some amazing new places. I love to travel, so even in a pandemic I have the opportunity to work in new states and areas. What more could I ask for?

What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment (a difficult case, surgery, patient illness, etc.) and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterwards?

There is an increased independence that comes from being a travel nurse. I learned that my knowledge is valuable, that I know more than I think and I can trust my instincts. Especially since COVID-19, I believe I have become a resource for my fellow co-workers, prior co-workers, as well as family and friends.

Describ****e a time where you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.

My first assignment at a small Indian Reservation rural hospital had to be the most difficult, as I came from a Level 1 Trauma Center/ Emergency Department. There was an initial culture shock and lack of some supplies I had taken for granted, and when a patient took a sharp turn for the worse I had to improvise to help save his life. Luckily, we found out later he made a full recovery. What an adrenaline rush! But I really did feel that my worth as a nurse had increased. No matter what, no matter the resources, the patient and their wellbeing comes first and I'll do whatever I can to try to make sure they have a positive outcome.

Describe the most miraculous or impressive thing you’ve witnessed or been a part of during your time as a nurse with Fastaff.

The most miraculous had to actually be the acceptance of the staff at my first assignment. I was nervous, expecting the welcoming to be cold, but was instead welcomed by wonderful team mates who embraced me and my fellow travelers as equals. They looked to us as resources, team-mates and friends. Definitely solidified that I was where I was meant to be!

How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff (i.e. family life, financial freedom, more personal freedom, etc.)?

Because of the opportunity I have with Fastaff I was able to become debt-free and buy a house! Definitely something I couldn’t have done if I hadn’t started travel nursing. Plus, as I mentioned, I got to see some new places along the way.
