February's Travel Nurse of the Month

February 22, 2017

Fastaff nurses are rewarded and recognized for the experience, skills and dedication they bring to each travel nursing assignment. This nurse is someone who exemplifies the Fastaff values.

Read below to learn more about this month's Nurse of the Month, Shelley Archuletta

Specialty:

Labor and Delivery.

Number of years working with Fastaff:

One year with Fastaff and two years total traveling. I’ve taken five assignments if you count extensions on three prior assignments.

Why do you love working with Fastaff?

Because they treat me well and they are honest. I have the best recruiter whom I can reach at any time, day or night, even on holidays and weekends.

What do you love about nursing?

I'm a very compassionate person and I've always had a calling to care for people. I love being an L&D nurse because I get to be part of that family's most important day ever. Ask any mother, even after 20 years, you know who was there to help you bring life into this world.

What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?

Getting to see the U.S., one state at a time. My husband and I got married and had our family young. Before traveling, the furthest East I had been was Nebraska. We've now been coast to coast! Also, getting to travel and being paid to do what I love! What could be better?

Tell me about a time where you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.

I was told recently that I have one of the most amazing resumes that person had ever seen. The manager said she would have hired me without even a phone call but she wanted to personally let me know how impressed she was by my resume. This wouldn't have been possible without my wonderful agency.

What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment (a difficult case, surgery, patient illness, etc.) and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterwards?

As most everyone is aware, L&D isn't always sunshine and roses. It's that 5% of cases that tear at your heartstrings as a human. Without going into details, due to privacy laws, we had one those 5% of births that don't go as planned, after hours of critical moments and then a transfer to an higher level of care and months in a NICU.

I once had a mother and father come back to see me with photos and hugs, telling me, "Thank you for saving our baby! We don't know what we would have done without your amazing compassionate care during the scariest time in our lives!"

How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff?

Not only have we seen each coast and some amazing places, but I have been able to pay off some bills, buy an RV and enjoy life!
