Read below to learn more about April’s Nurse of the Month, Christine Roller

Specialty:

Cardiac Cath Lab.

Number of years working with Fastaff:

Six years and 10 travel assignments.

Why do you love working with Fastaff?

I enjoy working for Fastaff for the interesting and diverse experiences it has afforded in me in my nursing career.

What do you love about nursing?

The feeling that I make a difference in people’s lives.

What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?

The opportunity to see new and interesting places and make friends along the way.

Tell me about a time where you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.

That’s exactly how I feel on my current assignment. I'm in Indiana, PA where they have just opened a new cardiac cath lab & started a PCI program. I have precepted the staff nurses as they learn the ins and outs of the cardiac cath lab and PCI patients. I feel valued as a resource for other nursing units in the hospital when questions arise regarding the specific patient population we care for in the cath lab.

What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterwards?

I recently cared for a patient who came to the cath lab very unstable & in cardiogenic shock. From the moment the patient came into the cath lab, I knew their case was going to be a challenge and likely would not have a positive outcome. I immediately initiated the critical care resources the patient needed and I know I did everything I could for that patient. Following that case, I felt extremely valuable as a primary nurse in the cath lab. I provided care at the time the patient needed it most that only an experienced cath lab nurse who has confidence in their practice would be able to. The patient did not make it; however, I remain proud of the care I provided when the seconds counted.

How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff?

During my current assignment, I have been able to work on my personal goal of paying off my student loans completely and beginning to save for a Master’s program in the coming years. I've also been able to spend more time with my immediate family on this assignment as they are only four hours away.
