What Are the Required Qualifications?

If you're considering pursuing travel histotechnician jobs, there are a few basic qualifications you'll need to possess. Since you'll be working with and handling specimens, we do ask that you have at least one to two years of hands-on experience as a working histo tech. You'll also need to have an active license or appropriate accreditation in one of the 50 US states as well as any state-specific requirements and certifications.

Because you'll be traveling around from one location to the next, we do like for our applicants to possess an adventurous spirit. Overall, you'll find that your knowledge and skills are in demand, so as long as you have the basic professional requirements, finding travel assignments that fit your goals should be a simple process.

Histotechnician Job Description

Pursuing a career as a histotechnician allows you to work in a health-related field as a key member of the lab team. While serving as a specialized medical lab worker, you'll be responsible for receiving, processing and preparing a variety of tissue samples and specimens.

These prepared samples will then be analyzed by the pathologist, who will use them for either diagnostic or research purposes.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

On a typical day, you'll be working alongside pathologists and lab managers as you turn various tissue samples into microscopic slides. This can be done by processes ranging from dying the sample to highlight any abnormalities to surrounding the tissue with paraffin wax.

While a traditional histotechnician role involves staying in one position, working as a traveler allows you to explore and pursue your love for adventure. You'll have set timeframes for working in one location before moving on to your next location. Because your career path will put you on the road throughout the year, you'll be exposed to new settings and situations, allowing you to grow in your knowledge and skills as a healthcare professional.
