Blog & News/Travel Nursing City Spotlight: Gainesville, GA
Is your next travel assignment taking you to the city of Gainesville, Georgia? Resting in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, you can expect to enjoy a pretty incredible view among outdoorsy activities and cultural experiences. One of the perks of being a travel nurse is getting to explore your host city, so what might you find in this one? Here are five things to do in Gainesville, GA.
If you are an art enthusiast, Gainesville is a good choice for your next job assignment. The Quinlan Visual Arts Center is the premier organization for visual arts in north Georgia. The center offers seasonal exhibitions as well as classes and workshops. They feature art for young local artists each month, as well. Quinlan is a popular party spot, too. Organizations rent out the entire exhibition hall for annual meetings and celebrations.
Whether you are a thespian or just enjoy a good show, the Gainesville Theatre Alliance has something for you. The Alliance is a collaborative effort of local students, residents and professionals that offer performances throughout the year.
Gainesville is home to three different colleges, with each college participating in this program. You might see Mary Poppins one night at the Brenau’s Hosch Theatre on the Brenau University campus, and head over to the University of North Georgia the next night for a little bit of Pecos Bill.
If you feel like a fish out of water while working in Georgia, spend a day off getting reinvigorated at the Frances Meadows Aquatic Center. The facility offers a 10-lane indoor pool, and outdoor recreational pool complete with two body slides, zero depth entry, a swirl pool and a fitness center.
You can also visit Frances Meadows for land-based classes on days you don’t feel like getting your hair wet.
If your idea of the perfect day off includes two wheels and nothing but nature, Gainesville can accommodate you with several scenic bike trails. There are 25 miles of mountain trails in and around the city. The Chicopee Woods Trail System includes 21 miles that allow you to explore the Chicopee Woods Park and the Elachee Nature Science Center.
If you want to get a quick ride in between shifts, the University of North Georgia Campus Trail System is close by. The 3.5 miles of terrain are perfect for beginning bikers and those looking for a cross-country training course.

Located in the downtown area, the trail starts in the Downtown Square where over 50 businesses are located.
