Blog & News/Travel Nursing Destination Spotlight: The Bronx, NY
As one of the five boroughs of New York City, The Bronx offers a vibrant culture for travel nurses to explore. Without even going into Manhattan, you will find fantastic food, museums, sporting events and more:
Bronx ZooWith more than 600 species from around the globe, you can easily spend an entire day at the world’s largest urban zoo. Whether your animal viewing tastes skew towards mammals, birds, reptiles, fish or insects, the Bronx Zoo will certainly have something you’re looking for with their world-class exhibits.
Yankee StadiumThe current Yankee Stadium, opened in 2009, is home to the New York Yankees and is one of the most prominent features of The Bronx. As the team with the most championships in any major U.S. professional sport, you’re likely to see a great game in a great atmosphere if you visit during the summer. Even if your travel assignment brings you to The Bronx during the winter, a stadium tour is still a great way to take in the history of this iconic sports franchise.
New York Botanical GardensOpen since the late 1800’s, The New York Botanical Garden has been a mainstay for those who like to explore how exotic eco-systems work. One of the Garden’s most historic features is the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a Victorian style glasshouse. This beautiful New York City Landmark, open since 1902, is home to 11 distinct habitats ranging from arid deserts to tropical rainforests.
Arthur AvenueKnown by many New Yorkers as the Bronx’s “Little Italy,” this section of the city could be one of the best places to get Italian fare such as bread, pasta, meat, pastries and more. It is also home to Ferragosto, a festival held every year to celebrate Italian culture, music and food. It is typically held the 2nd Sunday of September with an average of 14-17,000 attendees.
