Travel with Fastaff to California using this step-by-step guide, so you can start your next assignment without delays.

Why You Need a California License:

California is not part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, which means every nurse must hold a state-specific California license to work there.

How to Get Your California Nursing License:

Step 1: Apply Online Start by submitting your application through the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).

  • Complete the online application

  • Upload your 2x2 photo

Step 2: Send Required Documents Gather and submit the following:

  • ✅ Verification of your active nursing license

  • ✅ Official transcripts (sent directly from your school)

💡 Pro tip: Request these early to avoid delays. Step 3: Complete Your Background Check

All applicants must complete fingerprinting:

  • Live Scan (if you’re in California)

  • Fingerprint card (if you’re out of state)

Step 4: Pay Your Licensing Fees Be prepared for:

  • Application fee: $350

  • Temporary license (optional): $100

  • Fingerprinting: ~$49

Step 5: Track Your Application Once everything is submitted, the BRN will review your application.

  • Processing begins after all documents are received

  • You can monitor your status online

Step 6: Get Your License & Start Working After approval, you’ll receive your California RN license—and you’re ready to go! Need to Start Quickly? Get a Temporary License

If you’re trying to secure an assignment fast, request a temporary license so you can begin working while your permanent license is processing.
