August 2020 Nurse of the Month

August 27, 2020

Fastaff nurses are rewarded and recognized for the experience, skills, and dedication they bring to each travel nursing assignment. This nurse is someone who exemplifies the Fastaff values. Read below to learn more about the August Nurse of the Month, Jill Winn.

Name: Jill Winn

Specialty: Medical Surgical COVID Units

Number of assignments: Two assignments

Number of years with Fastaff: Six years

Why do you love working with Fastaff?

I love working with Fastaff because of the flexibility and support that is offered, not to mention the higher pay. They are always willing to work with me on my needs with each assignment and are available for any questions/concerns that may come up.

What do you love about nursing?

I love being a nurse because I am allowed to serve others as we are intended to do. I get to care for people that cannot care for themselves. Sometimes it’s the little things like straightening out the sheets that make the biggest difference because it shows them that I actually care about them.

I love watching my patients as they heal and gain strength each day.Unfortunately not all patients recover from their illness and because of this, I get the privilege of holding their hand, praying for them while they take their last breaths.I’m also an advocate for patients when they cannot be their own, which can be frustrating and rewarding all in the same shift!

What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?

Working on COVID units has made me feel more valued as a nurse because I (along with thousands of other nurses) was willing to step up and jump in to help, in a time that is uncertain.Nurses are FEARLESS, always willing to do what needs to be done and are one of the most trusted professionals and this has proved that!

What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment (a difficult case, surgery, patient illness, etc.) and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterwards?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced while on COVID assignment is seeing patients having to go through their illness, alone. One way we’ve been able to help is by offering video chat so they can at least see their loved ones faces in hopes to make them feel a little more at ease, given the situation. I also ty to be a listening ear and have real genuine conversations with them.

Describe a time where you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.

I’m most impressed by the amount of team work from all the travel nurses in the COVID units. We all know and feel the struggles and recognize we are all human and need extra support at times.

How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff (i.e. family life, financial freedom, more personal freedom, etc.)?

Since working with Fastaff, I’ve been able to pay off debts I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. It’s also allowed my family to vacation where I am working. I truly feel I am placed where God wants me to be, and will continue to pray for guidance, direction and strength for the days to come.
