Labor & Delivery Travel Registered Nurse Job

As a labor and delivery (L&D)  travel nurse, you will be involved in comforting a mother through contractions, keeping all family members advised of the progress of delivery, assisting the doctor during the birth of the child, educating new parents on the care of their infant, and caring for the newborn during his or her hospital stay. In the event of any emergency situations, you will be called to provide your L&D nurse knowledge and expertise in the management of life threatening complications. Labor and Delivery RN Qualifications:

  • Active RN license in specified state

  • Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program

  • BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS AWHONN certifications (certifications may vary by location)

  • Two years of recent experience in an acute care L&D environment

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse Duties & Responsibilities:

  • L&D nurses provide care to women and their newborns during the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and neonatal stages

  • Monitor and interpret maternal vital signs throughout labor and post-partum stages

  • Assess newborn and obtain vital signs of newborn during transition period

  • Monitor patients for potential high risk problems

  • Monitor and interpret fetal heart tones; and chart at appropriate intervals in a timely manner

  • Educate and support mothers and their families after giving birth
