This week we celebrate the unsung everyday heroes. The people that are there for your children at their best and worst moments. The ones who hold your child’s hand when they need a little extra courage. The people that dedicate their days to promoting the health and well-being of every child they come across: pediatric nurses.

This week is Pediatric Nurses Week and we want to give you some amazing ideas on how to support and show appreciation for those guys and gals who work every day to care for children and their families. Below are some easy activities you can put together to recognize and celebrate their dedication in your hospital.

Raffles with prizes

Everyone loves a raffle. You can structure it however you like but make sure there are some fun prizes for the winners. The prizes don’t have to be expensive, just remember to keep it fun. Some ideas could be: a new FitBit, coffee shop gifts cards, movie tickets, or a bright stethoscope.

Potlucks

A great way to organize this is to create a theme that people can work around. Ideas like breakfast for dinner, pumpkin-flavored foods, or family favorite recipes will help to keep the menu diverse. Create a master list and send it via email so people know what everyone is bringing.

Ice cream social

It’s easy to get swept up in the fast pace of the work day, so slow it down and enjoy a delicious (and well-deserved) treat towards the end of your nurses’ shifts. Use this as an opportunity to get to know more about your fellow staff members.

An appreciation board

Post pictures of your nurses with space to write and draw around them. Include markers and pens for other nurses, patients, and visitors to leave nice little notes or words of encouragement for their favorite nurse.
