The Advantages Of A Travel NurseCurrently, the average age of a Registered Nurse in the United States is 49. With the nursing professional population facing retirement there are not enough nurses to staff many healthcare facilities nationwide. In response to this trend many facilities are turning to travel nursing companies to hire and place traveling nurses within their facilities. There are travel nursing jobs in all 50 states paying $30 to $60 per hour plus bonuses as well as other benefits. Qualifying for a sizable bonus after successfully completing an assignment is not unusual. Bonuses include completion bonuses for working a set number of weeks, referral bonuses for referring other nurses to a travel nursing agency or holiday bonuses for working through the holidays. Other benefits travel nursing agencies offer include healthcare, dental and vision insurance, fully paid travel and housing, rental car option while on assignment, free continuing education credits and paid licensure and certification renewal. Travel nursing jobs often range from four to 13-weeks in length often with the option to extend. There are also a variety of hourly guarantees available. Hours may be 36, 40, 48 or 60 hours per week. A 36-hour guarantee is typically three 12-hour shifts per week leaving four days off to enjoy the assignment location. This type of assignment typically appeals to younger travel nurses seeking adventure through exploring new locations. A 40-hour guarantee is typically five 8-hour days, which is a conventional work week. These assignments are typically for highly skilled travel nurses that staff regularly scheduled areas of a facility such as the Operating Room. A 48- or 60-hour guarantee is, respectively, for four 12-hour or five 12-hour shifts per week. This type of assignment primarily appeals to travel nurses who are interested in earning the most pay in the shortest amount of time. There are just as many travel nursing assignment types as there are reasons nurses pursue a travel nursing career. With the current nursing population retiring and leaving the work force there are plenty of options in the nursing field, travel nursing being one of the most in-demand and most promising. |
