Traveling Rn Employment Explained

Traveling healthcare positions are one of the fastest growing industries for job opportunities, especially for nurses. Traveling RN employment is abundant because there is a shortage of Registered Nurses in many parts of the country. Nurses may be interested in becoming a traveling RN because of the enticing higher pay rates or simply because they enjoy seeing new places and meeting new people. There are numerous reasons this segment of the healthcare industry has grown exponentially. Travel nurse positions were initially designed to be temporary jobs to help hospitals fill RN vacancies created by a temporary increase in census and due to nurses on short-term absences.

As the nursing shortage grew worse travel nurse positions became increasingly popular and more in demand. Today, travel nurses have an abundance of positions nationwide to choose from when they are ready to take an assignment. In order to obtain a travel nurse position the nurse must apply through a travel nurse staffing agency. Most agencies cover housing and travel expenses, assist with licensing requirements, provide comprehensive benefits and pay generous referral, loyalty and completion bonuses. The hospital fills the traveling RN job temporarily, and the nurse gets paid above market wages to work and live in a new locale. Everybody wins in these situations - the hospital, the agency, the nurse, and the local residents who always have trained staff on-hand to provide skilled health care when needed.
