Traveling Demands Of Registered Nursing JobsTravel nursing can be a very demanding profession. As a travel nurse you are always entering new environments with new people, equipment, procedures and living arrangements. The first few weeks on each assignment can be very demanding as you are adapting to your new position and surroundings. Once a comfort level has been reached most nurses ease into their new assignment. One of the challenges a travel nurse can face is meeting the needs of the hospital. For example, when census varies between units it is often the travel nurse that is expected to float from the unit they were originally assigned to the unit that now has the greater need. If you are a nurse that doesn't enjoy floating then it would be useful to inquire about floating requirements during your interview with the facility. In some instances special arrangements can be made for individual nurses. While being a traveling Registered Nurse can be demanding it can also be very rewarding. Some of these rewards include receiving a higher hourly pay rate, free travel and housing, being free the day-to-day routine, receiving special bonuses and gifts, traveling throughout the country to places you might not have otherwise seen, comprehensive benefit packages, meeting new people and making lifetime friends, enhancing your skill set and becoming an invaluable member of the nursing community. |
