Requirements For Traveling Nursing PositionsOne of the most intriguing new opportunities in the healthcare field is traveling nursing. There are a variety of travel nurse staffing agencies that will help you find an assignment, assist with licensure, take care of your travel, housing accommodations and every detail of your assignment. There are some requirements a nurse must meet before becoming a travel nurse. Once you have met the specifications you will find a career as a traveling nurse both financially and professionally rewarding. Travel nurses must be licensed to work in the state in which their assignment is located. This task can be daunting for some nurses; however, most travel nurse staffing agencies will assist with getting the nurse the appropriate state license. The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) can make it even easier for nurses to take a travel position. The NLC is an agreement that several U.S. states have entered into that endorses a mutual recognition model of nursing regulation. Basically this means that any nurse who is licensed to work in one of the states that participates in the NLC can work in any of the NLC states. As a travel nurse it is important to get licensed to work in one of the compact states since you will have a wide variety of options. Currently, 22 states participate in the NLC. Another requirement of most travel nurse staffing agencies is that you must have at least one year of Registered Nurse experience. Some specialties will require additional experience. It is important to get at least one year of experience before venturing off on a travel nurse assignment to ensure that you have gained a certain comfort level as an RN. The more experience you have, the more marketable you become to a travel nurse staffing agency. Once you have successfully completing a few traveling nursing assignments you will have gained valuable experience that you can add to your resume. Traveling nursing employment exhibits one's ability to be flexible and adapt to new and changing environments. Employers know that if you are an experienced traveling nurse, you have unique and indispensable skills and knowledge in nursing.
