Becoming A Nevada Travel Nurse

In order to become a Nevada travel nurse a nurse must have at least one to two years of experience in their specialty. In addition, obtaining a Nevada state nursing license is necessary. Each facility located within the state of Nevada will also have different certification requirements that a nurse must meet prior to accepting a travel nursing assignment in Nevada.

Licensing requirements can be determined by visiting the Nevada state board of nursing web site for information. Qualifications for obtaining a Nevada nursing license include graduation from an approved school of nursing with a certificate, diploma or degree, passing the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) licensing examinations, possessing a social security number, completing and submitting fingerprint cards and the board clearing the fingerprint cards. Certain fees are also required to obtain a Nevada nursing license.

Each of the 50 U.S. states has their own board of nursing for licensing and different licensing requirements that must be met for RNs to work as travel nurses within each state. However, to allow for more mobility there has been a trend to form an alliance among 22 U.S. states called the compact state alliance. The compact state alliance allows a nurse to practice nursing in any of the 22 participating states without having to apply for each individual state license. A nurse who resides within any of the 22 compact states may use the license from her state of residency within any of the 22 compact states.

Nevada, however, is not part of the compact state alliance, therefore, a Nevada travel nurse would need to apply for and receive a Nevada state nursing license prior to taking a Nevada travel nursing position.
